KHOLUI, lacquer papier-mache miniatures. Kholui is among the most ancient villages in the Vladimir-Suzdal area. Legend has it that arts and crafts were practiced in these parts from as early as the time of the Tatar-Mongol invasion. One of the greatest European centers for such items was Johann Stobwasser's manufactory in Braunschweig. In 1795 the Russian merchant Pyotr Korobov visited the Braunschweig works and his enterprising mind quickly grasped that cheap and simple articles could be mass-produced using this very durable combination of materials. Short biographies of gzhel artist

Fedotov Alexander Nickolajevich Born in 1937 in Kurovskoje, Moscow district. In 1965 graduated from the Abramtsevo Industrial Art School, since 1972 works as a painter at "Gzhel" Association. The member of the Union of Artist. Honoured Artists of the RSFSR. Awarded with various diplomas and medals. The author of tea-and coffee-sets, vases, mugs, jugs, salt-cellars, mirror frames, sets for "kvas", decorative dishes, the set for coffee and tea, broth cups, the set for dessert, the decorative clesk lamps called "Karusel", etc. His works are presented in VMDPI, GMK "Kuskovo", MNI, GRM, ZGIHM, MO "Gzhel".
