KHOLUI, lacquer papier-mache miniatures. Kholui is among the most ancient villages in the Vladimir-Suzdal area. Legend has it that arts and crafts were practiced in these parts from as early as the time of the Tatar-Mongol invasion. Short biographies of gzhel artists

Azarova Ludmila Pavlovna Born in 1919 in Borovsk, Kaluga district. Participated in World War II. In 1954 graduated from the Moscow Industrial Art High School (former Stroganovskoje), specialized in sculpture. Since 1954 worked as a painter of Gzhel Association called "Artistic Ceramics". From 1960 till 1972 worked as the chief artist of "Gzhel" Association. L.P. Azarova is the veteran of labor, the member of the Union of Artists, in 1978 she became the laureate of the State prize of the RSFSR named after I. Repin, the People's Artist of the Russian Republic. The author of many sculptures, jugs, tea-sets, shtoffs, "matreshkas", cases, "samovars", vases, cups, clocks. The participial of a large number of exhibitions, republican and international. Awarded with silver and bronze medals of the Exhibition of People's Economy Achievements. In 1978 at the International Fair in Zagreb (Yugoslavia) the works of Azarova winned the golden medal. Her works are presented in GRM, GIM, MNI, ZGIHM, GMK "Kuskovo", MO "Gzhel" etc.
